In a recent Arts Today interview, Michael Hilt, Dean of the UNO School of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media, spoke with Allison Swenson, who has served as General Director of Opera Omaha for a little over two years. Their conversation offered a closer look at Swenson’s path into arts leadership and her vision for the future of opera in the region.
Swenson reflected on her journey, from early exposure to the arts to discovering a passion for connecting communities through performance. “I didn’t set out to lead an opera company,” she said. “But every step I took — in music, education, and nonprofit work — led me here.”
