DESCRIPTION:Peter Millett: Gestures is on view at KANEKO from May 1 through September 6\, 2026.\nSculpture\, at its most essential\, is a conversation between form and space\, and few artists have sustained that conversation with as much patience and curiosity as Peter Millett.\nGestures traces the arc of Millett’s practice across several decades\, from the dense\, rusted weight of early Corten steel to the open\, luminous planes of his most recent powder-coated works. The materials shift. The inquiry doesn’t. Throughout\, Millett returns to the same essential questions: how shapes relate to one another\, how surfaces catch and release light\, how sculpture can project feeling and presence without uttering a single word.\nWhat emerges across the full span of the exhibition is not just a record of formal evolution\, but a portrait of an artist who has remained genuinely open to new materials\, to unexpected outcomes\, to the possibility that the next body of work might ask something entirely different of him. That openness is visible in every piece.\nGestures is accompanied by a series of public programs\, including artist conversations and hands-on making sessions with Peter Millett. DESCRIPTION:This exhibition runs from May 1 through September 26\, 2026.\nColecciones de Estudio de Invierno brings together new and recent work by Omaha sculptor and glass artist Therman Statom\, one of the defining figures of the contemporary glass movement. The title points to the nature of the work itself: pieces that emerged from sustained studio practice\, gathered here as a kind of personal inventory\, objects that carry the accumulation of a long creative life.\nStatom works by cutting\, painting\, and assembling sheets of plate glass\, gluing them together into large-scale sculptural forms—chairs\, ladders\, houses\, wall-mounted constructions—and sandblasting their surfaces into canvases for color and line. Found objects enter the work along the way\, adding texture and narrative. The resulting pieces are at once structural and painterly\, drawing from the gestural energy of Abstract Expressionism and the economy of Minimalism without settling comfortably into either tradition.\nThe work is vivid and physical—glass that catches light\, holds color\, and invites close looking. But there is also something quieter running through these pieces: a sense of objects observed\, collected\, and reconsidered. Free for garden members. \nArtist Statement \nAs a flower artist who is inspired by what is growing seasonally along the shores of the Missouri River in Omaha\, Nebraska\, I’ve appreciated deepening a connection with the natural shifts of time in nature by tuning into what is blooming locally. Pressing flowers has become a deeply intentional practice in noticing these gifts around us. \nThis series of pressed and framed flora pieces finds stems\, leaves\, blooms\, petals\, and pods puzzle pieced together\, swirling and moving with one another. \nYou may notice words and recognizable shapes\, like hearts or the word “LOVE\,” created by the form and shape each plant element offers. The flora represented comes from as close as our personal garden\, native prairie plants\, and local flower farms\, and as distant as commercial flower farms in South America. \nEach is precious — I’ve grown to see each one as a poem of gratitude to our natural world. I hope you do too. \nAbout the Artist \nHolly Lukasiewicz /she.her/ with District 2 Floral Studio merges her identities as an art educator and environmentalist by creating flora-based works inspired by the ephemerality each season offers. \nShe is deeply grounded in local agriculture and sustainable design practices as they relate to the well being of our local and global communities. \nEncouraging others to connect with sustainability through beauty and flowers\, she offers workshops\, flower subscriptions\, event work\, custom installations\, flower preservation services\, and ecoprints. \nLauritzen Gardens proudly provides a platform for local artists\, showcasing botanical artwork inspired by our collections and celebrating the connection between art\, nature\, and our community.

DESCRIPTION:The exhibit\, ‘Post-War Letterpress: Harry Duncan\, Cummington Press and Abattoir Editions at UNO’\, which highlights the fine arts press books published by Duncan’s two printing presses is open through May 4\, 2026. Post-War Letterpress: Harry Duncan\, Cummington Press and Abattoir Editions at UNO shares materials from the UNO Fine Arts Press collection\, focusing on the works of Harry Duncan\, a printer\, typographer\, publisher\, and former professor at UNO. Harry Duncan (1916-1997) used a hand-press printer to create letterpress books. Born in Keokuk\, Iowa\, he founded the Cummington Press (1939-1997) in Massachusetts\, before moving the company to Iowa and later to Nebraska. As a professor of fine arts at UNO\, he began Abattoir Editions\, the UNO Fine Arts Press in 1972 and led the press until 1985. \nDuncan was called “the father of the post-World War II private-press movement” by Newsweek in 1982 and his designs were lauded by scholar Joseph Blumenthal for their “compelling and dramatic simplicity.” Duncan worked with authors such as Tennessee Williams\, Robert Lowell\, Alan Tate\, Lyn Coffin\, as well as students\, faculty and staff at UNO. \nSome of the books and woodblocks on display were collected and donated by Mary L. Richmond\, the curator of the Chapin Library at Williams College in Williamstown\, MA from 1947 to 1955. These items\, which compose the Mary L. Richmond Cummington Press Collection\, were donated by Richmond to UNO in 1977. \n  \nDuring regular hours\, Criss Library is open to the public Monday – Thursday 7AM-10PM\, Friday 7AM-5PM\, Saturday 9AM-5PM and Sunday 12PM-10PM.
