‘Classical Meets Cool’ by Barron Ryan at Vespers

February 17th, 2023

Pianist and composer Barron Ryan grew up in a musical household in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The variety of music he listened to ranged from Glen Millard, Beethoven, Oscar Peterson, and even The Jackson Five. When he chose to make music as a profession, he did not want to choose a specific style. Instead, he mixed all those types of music he was familiar with, and created his own.

With captivating stories and piano performances, Ryan does not describe his style, but rather the influence of the music he plays. All of Ryan’s family is musical.

Ryan was always good at music, but for a while, he wanted to be an engineer. Until he took a physics class and immediately changed his mind. Ryan opted for his second option, music. At the age of 16, he dedicated himself fully to practicing the piano. Currently, he composes and tours sharing his style of music.

Ryan always begins his concerts with an explanation of why he creates music the way he does and what the audience can expect from the show. He wants the public to discover the beauty that he is uniquely positioned for.

“Classical Meet Cool”  is on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of the Cross. This concert is part of the Vespers Concert’s 34th season. Vesper Concerts are free to the public. You can find more information at https://vesperconcerts.org/pianist-barron-ryan/
