UNO Bands Host Sixth Annual Conducting Workshop
May 28th, 2024
The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s School of Music provides a multitude of opportunities for community engagement. One of those opportunities includes the UNO Bands annual Conducting Workshop.
The conducting workshop is an event that takes place in one day. Joshua Kearney is the Director of Bands at UNO, he says the day is filled with unique learning opportunities.
This year, the workshop day has been extended to provide participants the opportunity to conduct twice. The workshop is intended to potentially provide information and instruction the conductors can apply to their own style and lessons. Planning for each workshop begins about a year in advance
Andrew Walters, principal of McMillan Middle School, will be the second guest clinician at the event to assist in teaching the undergraduate track conductors important information about future careers. The conducting workshop isn’t only to enhance skills, it’s also to encourage support.
This year’s UNO Bands Conducting workshop will take place on Thursday, June 6 in the Strauss Performing Arts Center on UNO Dodge Campus. For more information about the workshop and registration, visit unobands.com.
