Maestro Conducts Respighi

May 19 @ 2:00 pm

Behold the sounds of the organ, an extraordinary and timeless instrument featured in Respighi’s Suite for Organ and Strings, followed by a virtuosic performance of Lukas Foss’ Three American Pieces for Violin and Orchestra by Concertmaster Susanna Perry Gilmore.

Showcasing the glorious organ at the Strauss Performing Arts Center at UNO, the afternoon opens with Ottorino Respighi’s stirring Suite for Organ and Strings.  A perfect companion to this Joslyn Series concert is Respighi’s Trittico Botticelliano, a vivid musical depiction of three famous paintings by Sandro Botticelli, The Adoration of the Magi, The Birth of Venus, and Primavera. Exploring a different side of the human experience, Copland’s Quiet City is a haunting and atmospheric piece that depicts the solitude of urban life in New York City and features Heather Baxter, Omaha Symphony’s Assistant Principal Oboe and English Horn, and Federico Montes, Omaha Symphony’s Associate Principal Trumpet, making their soloist debuts in front of the orchestra.
