And increasingly, musicians too are engaging in more mental skills training – ways of practicing and preparing which can lead to more consistent, inspired, and engaged performances. In this session, we’ll explore the two causes of “choking” under pressure, and two ways to prevent this from happening – a sound-based technique and an improvisation-based technique. This session is recommended for high school, middle school, and upper elementary students. (Presentation for students and Caregivers; educators welcome to observe!)Becoming More Pressure Proof & Practicing for Performance Success for Educators: Professional development presentation for educators. In this session, we’ll explore the two causes of “choking” under pressure, and two ways to prevent this from happening – a sound-based technique and an improvisation-based technique. We will also explore the research on practice that “sticks,” and experiment with three key practice schedules that elite performers use to improve more quickly and become more confident in their ability to play their best on the very first try – rather than on the second or third attempt.Bulletproof Musician: Practicing for Performance Success for Students & Families: In this session for students and families, we will explore the research on practice that “sticks,” and experiment with three key practice schedules that elite performers use to improve more quickly and become more confident in their ability to play their best on the very first try – rather than on the second or third attempt.
