In this group exhibition at the Radial Arts Center, the curators, Mary Ensz and Sheree Le’Shawn, use a singularly devastating sentence as a conceptual point of departure: We Regret to Inform You…
“We Regret To Inform You…” An Exhibition of Rejected Art is organized by guest curators, Mary Ensz and Sheree Le’Shawn. This exhibition features a collection of work by artists that have previously been rejected or is representative of rejection. The phrase “We regret to inform you” is often seen as a polite phrase to deliver bad news that is known by dejected applicants everywhere. While this collection of artwork may have been informed by rejection, it is not bound by it. Rather, “We Regret To Inform You…” prompts a conversation around obstacles encountered and ways of overcoming them. It is a community space to include the excluded and hold our feelings around rejection together.

This exhibition is a part of the BIPOC Curatorial Program series organized by the Radial Arts Center with support from the Benson Creative District. The BIPOC Curatorial Program is designed to fill the gap in available opportunities for individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. The Program is designed to offer the opportunity for guest curators of color to curate exhibitions within Radial Art Center’s ongoing Exhibition Program and empower these individuals to develop and share exhibitions that initiate dialogue and share personal vision and experiences through curation.
