Protecting Nebraska and Nebraskans

December 10th, 2021

LINCOLN-Nebraska contains more acres of wetlands than any surrounding state. These wetlands are very diverse and dynamic and include marshes, lakes, river and stream backwaters, oxbows, wet meadows, forested swamps, and seeps. For the Department of Transportation to build roads, Nebraska has very specific guidelines for the development of new pathways.

The Nebraska Natural District Resources will hold a training on December 16th. The course is geared towards local officials who must review proposals for development in Nebraska’s floodplains but could also be of interest to developers. Understanding the work of different state and federal agencies when we have floods or when it is necessary to protect floodplains is important for the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources.
