**Remembering the History of Council Bluffs, Iowa**

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the rich history of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Originally named “The Traders Point” in 1824, this area quickly became a vital hub of commerce during the early days of white settlement along Iowa’s western frontier. In 1846, it was renamed “Kanesville,” and in 1852, it adopted its current name, “Council Bluffs.”

As the town grew, many significant buildings were constructed. One notable structure, built in 1894, now serves as the home of Pottawattamie Arts, Culture, and Entertainment (PACE), a thriving center for the arts. This building symbolizes the community’s longstanding commitment to cultural enrichment.

Adam Van Osdel, the creative director at PACE, believes that the name “Kanesville” didn’t connect well with many people, especially younger generations and outsiders. However, he emphasizes that PACE’s dedication to its mission has been unwavering since its inception. Every Saturday from 1 to 5 PM, PACE offers classes for children, providing parents with an opportunity to engage their kids in creative activities.
