Artist’s Cooperative Nurtures a Flourishing Arts Community

August 21st, 2026

Being a staple in downtown Omaha for 51 years, the Artist’s Cooperative is a local art gallery that nurtures the blossoming variety of local artists spanning across various art forms. Consisting of 37 members, the Artist’s Cooperative assists local artists by providing gallery space and a community-driven outlet to showcase their work. Every month, the Artist’s Cooperative showcases a new exhibition of work.

Sculptor Robert Dewaele speaks about their upcoming showcase for September. Dewaele says, “It’ll be a 3D show. All the work within the show would be sculptural.”

The Artist’s Cooperative has seen the growth of many professionals, from painters to photographers, weavers, and even jewelers. The work at the Artist’s Cooperative spans across various genres of art. Dewaele says, “We have… sort of like graphically real, paintings or drawings. Some people do fully abstract pieces, some people somewhere in between. So we try to trade around the whole spectrum of the different styles that are currently out there in the art world.”

Working with the Artist’s Cooperative, Dewaele expresses the importance of having such a grassroots arts organization in Omaha. Dewaele finishes by stating, “It gives us room to grow and create and also share ideas with our fellow artists.”

The Artist’s Cooperative will be unveiling its newest exhibition this September. More information can be found at artistscoopomaha.com.
