Benson Film Festival Rolls Out the Red Carpet

April 25th, 2025

One of Omaha’s most vibrant neighborhoods is shining a spotlight on local and independent cinema as the Benson Film Festival returns this weekend, welcoming filmmakers and film lovers alike.

Presented by Authento Creative in partnership with the historic Benson Theatre, the festival celebrates not just the art of film but the creative energy of the community that surrounds it. Now in its fifth year, the event has grown steadily since its launch in October 2019 and marks a new chapter through a key partnership with the Benson Theatre.

“This festival started small, but it’s quickly building an identity of its own,” said Ben Matukewicz, executive director of the Benson Film Festival. Known to many as “Maticues,” Matukewicz began his creative journey making music videos. His passion for storytelling, however, took root long before he ever picked up a camera.

This year’s collaboration with the Benson Theatre, a cornerstone of the neighborhood’s arts district, brings expanded visibility and new opportunities for community engagement. The partnership provides a dedicated space for screenings, panels, and other programming aimed at elevating independent voices in film.

The Benson Film Festival runs Friday, April 25, through Sunday, April 27. For a full schedule and ticket information, visit bensonfilmfest.com.
