Do Good Days Inspires and Celebrates Volunteers in Omaha

April 22nd, 2025

SHARE Omaha is leading this year’s celebration of Do Good Days, which is a community wide event spanning April 23-26. Do Good Days is the time of year where many are encouraged to help out and volunteer in their local community. This year, SHARE Omaha has partnered with over 580 different non-profits in Omaha for Do Good Days. These include arts non-profits like the Omaha Jitterbugs, The Joslyn Castle and Gardens, The Nebraska Writers Collective, Omaha Conservatory of Music and many others. Tereasa Mardeson, executive director of SHARE Omaha, shares the importance of supporting the arts saying, “SHARE encourages artists…if there is a skill or something artistic you did growing up, I almost guarantee there is a volunteer need for you.”

This volunteer work spans a wide range of scope, skills and needs. Do Good Days aims to help close the volunteer gap in the community. Statistics show nearly 17% of people in the community are currently contributing to close that gap, however, Do Good Days is on a quest to raise that percentage. This year SHARE Omaha’s goal is to recruit two thousand new volunteers in the area. Mardeson states, “What they need is simple stuff, they need people to help with the front, set-up and teardown… decorate, to run water.”

These opportunities are also a good way to shape the community you want to live in. Mardeson ends on a thoughtful note saying, “I’ve never left a volunteer event where it is not clear the impact that I made…it’s a great way to make an impact on causes that matter to you.”
