Explore the Works of CONTEMPORARY: A Pierce Street Art Exhibition
April 3rd, 2026
As the flowers of Spring begin peeking out for another season, they’re accompanied by the blooming arts culture within Omaha. With the season of renewal, inspiration fuels the ingenuity of local artists within Omaha. A celebration of local creativity, “CONTEMPORARY: A Pierce Street Art Exhibition” is open now through April 24 at Phillips’ art studio, Pierce Street Art Gallery, located on 7640 Pierce Street. Exhibition Curator Shiri Phillips says the exhibition is an opportunity for both artists and the public to explore contemporary art.
This year’s exhibition is the second contemporary art exhibition Phillips curated within Omaha. Her first curated exhibition debuted in 2023, drawing in artists from across the city for a successful run. After acquiring a bigger studio space this January, Phillips began plans to open an artist-led space dedicated to contemporary art named Pierce Street Art Gallery.
“It’s just a creative place for artist to have in their back pocket and they can present their work, share their ideas, and connect with the community here,” Phillips said.
Pierce Street Art Gallery kicked off its grand opening with “CONTEMPORARY: A Pierce Street Art Exhibition”, both debuting to the public March 27. The exhibition features artwork by 21 artists in a variety of mediums such as paintings, pottery photography, mixed media works and more.
“They’re artists that, I admire their work, I have some of their art hanging in my home, they’re artists that I know personally,” Phillips said. “They’re artists that are doing really meaningful, great things for Omaha and I wanted to bring them all into one space.”
Accompanying the exhibition is an artist panel titled, “Why We Make: Process, Intuition & Building a Practice”. The panel consists of three artists involved in the exhibition: Emily McQueen, Kim Goldberg, and Jill Rizzo with artist Joanna Goecke who will be live painting a watercolor piece throughout the event. The conversation will delve into the intricacies that go into making art and living life creatively. The panel will take place at Pierce Street Gallery April 18, beginning at 3 p.m.
“It’s really a chance for contemporary art to have its own conversation,” Phillips said. “You know, I want folks to come in and have a creative exchange of ideas or be inspired by these paintings”.
“CONTEMPORARY: A Pierce Street Art Exhibition” is will introduce open hours beginning April 13 through April 18. The gallery will be open for the public Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on the exhibition, you can visit the gallery’s Instagram page @PierceStreetArt.
