Kaneko Presents the Work of Seattle Sculptor Peter Millett

May 1st, 2026

Local art museum, Kaneko, is opening their newest exhibit on May 1st: This exhibit is named Gesture, which is a showcase of the work of Seattle sculpture Peter Millett. Millett creates different forms and structures through woodwork and metalwork, as well as, experiments with the core principles of sculpting through his discovery of new ways to manipulate shapes, colors and textures in all his pieces. Millett says, “I think what’s interesting is, you can see the connection between some of the forms and shapes I’ve done in wood and then how they have also been translated into metal, and the forms that I work with are very simple geometric forms.”

Running from May 1st to September 6th, this exhibit showcases approximately ten of Millett’s wooden sculptures and around sixteen examples of his metalworks. These pieces span across the entirety of Millett’s artistic career which even include forms that were created thirty years ago. “Some pieces I’ve worked with is Corten steel, which is, wonderful steel. And I let it weather and rust, and that becomes the final finish,” says Millett.

Peter Millett has also started to introduce color into his metal works through using a powder coating. This new dimension to his art helps Millett continue to experiment further within each of his pieces. “I think of the artwork as, sort of visual music, and it’s like, melodies without word,” says Millett, “And if they can get into the rhythms that I create, and the harmonics of the shapes and the colors and the forms, I think it’s best described in… how one approaches music and listens to music.”

The Kaneko will be holding an opening reception on May 1st for their Peter Millett exhibit. More information can be found at the thekaneko.org.
