Local Poet and Educator Nominated for Nebraska State Poet Honor
December 11th, 2024
The Nebraska Writers Collective, known for fostering creativity among young writers, employs local poets and authors to teach poetry and creative writing in after-school programs for middle and high school students. Their efforts culminate each year in a state-wide youth poetry slam, All Writes Reserved (formerly Louder Than A Bomb), which provides a platform for students to showcase their talents.
One of the program’s dedicated teachers, Jewel Rodgers, has been nominated for the prestigious role of Nebraska State Poet. Rodgers, a celebrated poet and educator, has inspired countless young writers through her work with the Nebraska Writers Collective, blending mentorship with her passion for poetry.
If selected, Rodgers will follow in the footsteps of other distinguished Nebraska poets, serving as an advocate for the state’s literary community while continuing to inspire the next generation of writers. The recognition reflects both her individual achievements and the broader impact of programs like All Writes Reserved.
