Lofte Community Theatre Show “Making God Laugh” Portrays an Honest Depiction of Family

May 8th, 2026

For the second show of its 50th season, the Lofte Community Theatre is presenting Making God Laugh, a contemporary family slice-of-life dramedy that examines parenthood throughout the decades. The play follows a single family as they navigate changes in the world around them, within themselves, and in their relationships with one another as they eventually come together as one. Kevin Colbert, the director of Making God Laugh, says, “All the different scenes take place ten years apart, and each of them has something special within those ten years.”

With a cast of five, the show feels intimate and carries an honest message that resonates with audiences across the area. The story is ultimately about the experience of raising children and how, no matter the path they choose, their happiness matters most. “You raise the birds, and then they fly the way they fly, you know? And what happens? You do the best you can, and away they go. You just have to watch your kids and enjoy their lives,” Colbert finishes.

Making God Laugh will be showing at the Lofte Community Theatre through May 10. More information about the show can be found at lofte.org.
