Martin Starr Brings Adventureland to Omaha

Popcorn might be the traditional movie theater snack, but audiences have been enjoying sweets at the movies since the early days of cinema. This weekend, Film Streams is combining that longtime tradition with a special screening of a beloved summer coming-of-age film — and a little taste of something new.
Film Streams will welcome actor and comedian Martin Starr to the Dundee Theater for a screening of Adventureland on Saturday, August 8, at 7 p.m. The 2009 comedy stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Starr in a story about a recent college graduate whose plans for a dream trip to Europe fall apart, forcing him to take a job at a local amusement park where he discovers friendship, unexpected challenges and romance.
The film was directed by Greg Mottola, known for Superbad, and features Starr as James Brennan’s sarcastic and cynical co-worker and friend. Starr first gained attention for his role in the cult television series Freaks and Geeks before becoming widely recognized for playing Bertram Gilfoyle on HBO’s Silicon Valley. His credits also include Party Down, Knocked Up, This Is the End, Tulsa King and appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man films.
Following the screening, Starr will join Omaha musicians and composers Ez and Dee Potash — known professionally as The Potash Twins — for a conversation with the audience.
The identical twin brothers grew up in Omaha and attended Westside High School. After being discovered and mentored by legendary trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis, they built careers bringing trumpet and trombone into contemporary music, collaborating with artists including John Legend, the Jonas Brothers, Diplo, Snoop Dogg and Jon Batiste.
In 2025, The Potash Twins were named Nebraska’s first-ever Composer Laureates by Gov. Jim Pillen, recognizing their contributions to music, culture and arts advocacy.
The connection between Starr and The Potash Twins began away from the stage and screen — through a shared appreciation for gummy candy. The three later teamed up to create Sweet Stash, an Omaha-based candy company focused on bold flavors, clean ingredients and supporting arts and music education.
The special Adventureland screening and conversation with Martin Starr and The Potash Twins takes place Saturday, August 8, at 7 p.m. at the Dundee Theater.
