Megan McCoy: Bringing Fiber Art to Omaha

February 5th, 2025

Art is one of many ways to express yourself, and for fiber artist Megan McCoy, art is a way to encourage thoughts about femininity.

McCoy’s interest in fiber art began while completing a master’s degree in textile design from Norwich University of the Arts, in England. After graduation, she returned to Omaha and continued her career as a fiber artist.

McCoy creates her art through cloth, such as through embroidery, weaving and tufting.

Traditionally considered feminine, she embraces her methods of creating art alongside her own experiences to convey themes of womanhood.

McCoy’s latest pieces are rugs, embroidery, and cross stitch. While she occasionally sells her pieces at the Benson First Friday Artist Market, McCoy says she spends much of her time preparing pieces for upcoming art galleries.

Her art is currently being exhibited at the University of Nebraska’s School of the Arts Alumni Exhibition in the Hexagon Gallery through February 21st. McCoy’s work will also be exhibited in the upcoming Experiences in Femininity Exhibit at Criss Library in March.

McCoy’s art portfolio and contact information is available at megannlmccoy.com.
