Omaha Community Playhouse Drives Accessibility With VROOM!

June 20th, 2025

The Omaha Community Playhouse (OCP) is helping to bridge the gap in theatre access across the Greater Omaha Metro with its mobile theatre. Entering the scene three years ago, OCP’s mobile theatre—called VROOM!—has taken on the task of bringing the art of theatre to individuals facing mental and physical challenges. Katy Kepler, director of VROOM!, says, “We are very flexible and very earnest about wanting to make sure the arts are available to everyone.”

VROOM! aims to meet its audiences where they are—both physically and mentally. Whether it’s traveling to more isolated parts of the city or adapting performances to meet the specific needs of audience members, VROOM! aims to share the joy of theatre with all. Kepler states, “We have really different definitions of success… everybody has a different access point to the show… we are hoping to be just as accessible as possible to everyone.”

This year, VROOM! is unveiling a new show, Beatwood Hollow, an original script written by Kepler herself. “Beatwood Hollow is very special to me because everything was homegrown—everything was locally made and created,” Kepler says. This performance is not only breaking down barriers to theatre access but is introducing new audiences to the magic of live theatre.
