“Pass The Popcorn’ Dundee Theater Celebrates 100 Years
February 27th, 2025
Moviegoers in Omaha will have the chance to step back in time and experience a century of cinema as the historic Dundee Theater marks its 100th anniversary.
The theater, which first opened its doors in 1925, has undergone multiple renovations and changed ownership over the years. But one thing has remained constant—its commitment to celebrating film and bringing the community together.
To commemorate this milestone, Film Streams is launching the Dundee Hundee, a special film series showcasing iconic movies from each decade of the theater’s existence. The series kicks off on March 28 with a screening of Fritz Lang’s 1927 science-fiction classic Metropolis, featuring live accompaniment by the Anvil Orchestra.
“This series is not just about the films that have played at the Dundee over the past century, but also about celebrating the incredible moments that have taken place within its walls,” said Marie Schuett, Marketing and Communications General Manager at Film Streams.
Among those moments was a recent marriage proposal, where a local filmmaker surprised his girlfriend with a short film he created, underscored by a love song he wrote and recorded. After the film played before the feature, he walked down the aisle to propose. She said yes, and the audience erupted in applause.
The theater has long been a place where movie lovers have forged lasting memories. Patrons have recalled falling in love during screenings, enjoying midnight movies with friends, and experiencing films that left a profound impact on their lives.
As Film Streams collects more stories from the community, organizers hope to highlight the Dundee’s lasting impact on generations of film enthusiasts.
The Dundee Hundee series will continue throughout the year. For more information or to share personal memories of the theater, visit FilmStreams.org.
