Rebecca Bartlett presents CULT ACT: A Practice in Death Poetry and Prayer at Petshop Gallery (2727 N. 62nd St).

About the exhibition, Bartlett states, “Much like God and science, the creation of art is an attempt to name what is not yet known. “Cult Act” is suggesting that the actions and choices we make between birth and death are ultimately our prescribed death copes. Mortality isn’t always the ego’s main consideration, but it is assured and omnipresent. This lingering reality and equalizer connects and separates us simultaneously and this tension propels the artwork forward. Through the act of creating these images, the artist is imploring the audience to consider their actions as sacred.”

Opening reception takes place March 1st from 7pm to 10pm. CULT ACT will be on display at Petshop Gallery through the end of April.
