Eko Nova – Different Trains
November 21 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
$45The Omaha Chamber Music resumes it’s ground-breaking Eko Nova series at KANEKO.
Featuring string quartet composition by minimalist masters Steve Reich and Phillip Glass and Omaha Symphony members Kevin Tompkins, Juliet Yoshida, Tyler Sieh and Tim Strang.
The minimalist movement is about distilling process and journey down to their rawest elements—a perfect musical companion for the works of John Clement, whose exhibition “The Answer is: Love Exists,” currently on display at KANEKO, is a similar exploration of the sculptor’s process.
Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 5, composed in 1991, sees Glass at his most expansive and cinematic. With equal parts precision and gesture, this work takes its audience on a satisfying journey that is as sweeping as it is succinct.
Steve Reich’s Different Trains was composed in 1988 and represents one of the most important works for string quartet from the last years of the 20th century. Reich uses his technique of tape looping (a technique he has explored since the 1960s) to create a haunting and hypnotic tapestry upon which he tells the story of the Jewish people before, during, and after the events of World War II.
