‘Tango Romantico’ Promises a Multisensory Experience

Tango, a dance known for its sensuality, originated in the marginalized neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the 1800s. These areas were a melting pot of cultures, including African, indigenous, Caribbean, and European influences. As tango gained popularity, it transcended its humble origins and captivated audiences worldwide, spreading to affluent districts of Buenos Aires and later gaining traction across Europe and the United States in the early 20th century.

During Argentina’s golden age from 1930 to 1950, marked by economic prosperity, tango experienced a surge in popularity, giving rise to new styles and innovations. In Omaha, many have embraced tango as a romantic way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. A few years ago, Maria Harding, principal flutist of the Omaha Symphony and member of the Omaha Chamber Music Society, curated a “Tango Romantico” concert. This event featured local musicians performing beloved tango classics, creating a truly enchanting experience for the audience.

This year, Harding aims to elevate the attendee experience by introducing additional elements to “Tango Romantico.” She explains that the combination of Tango Romántico music from the Omaha Chamber Music Society, along with wine and chocolate, appeals to multiple senses, promising an immersive and delightful evening.
