What is the Summer Musical Theatre Academy?
The UNO Theatre Summer Musical Theatre Academy is returning for its fourth season and is joining RiverFront Omaha and the Omaha Symphony for the Independence Day Celebration weekend with a FREE performance of The SpongeBob Musical at Gene Leahy Mall on July 1st at 8:00pm. The UNOT SMTA is a four-week tuition free intensive training program in musical and technical theatre led by UNO faculty, UNO alum, and local and national professionals. This year’s academy includes students from the Omaha, Ralston, Westside, Millard, Blair, and Fremont school districts. KVNO’s Sherry Kennedy Brownrigg will be the emcee for the evening.
What to expect
We strongly encourage you to bring your own water bottles, folding chairs, and blankets to the performance. You can start reserving spots at 3pm the day of the performance. Food trucks, water fountains, and public restrooms will be available on site.

About the Summer Musical Theatre Academy
The SMTA offers practical experience in every aspect of building, running, and performing a production in a professional and supportive environment. The crew works under the supervision of the design and production team in the scene shop, costume shop, in stage management, on lighting, sound, props, and makeup. The SMTA encourages responsibility, ownership, teamwork, and personal excellence.
