Bluebarn Theatre Kicks Off 36th Season with ‘Dracula’

October 7th, 2024

The Bluebarn Theatre, a fixture in Omaha for over 35 years, continues to stand out by offering productions that stray from the commercial mainstream. Each season, the theater presents fresh new works and timeless classics, providing audiences with intimate and unique experiences.

Producing Artistic Director Susan Clement highlights the theater’s smaller size, which creates a close connection between the audience and the stage. “There’s no bad seat here,” Clement says, emphasizing how every viewer feels part of the performance in the local theater scene.

Bluebarn was also a trailblazer in advocating for fair treatment of actors. It was one of the first theaters in the area to implement a minimum living wage for its performers, a move Clement is proud to see other organizations now following.

Reflecting on the theater’s journey, Clement notes that the past three decades have brought plenty of challenges and successes. Last year, during Bluebarn’s 35th season, the theater experienced a notable rise in attendance, signaling its continued relevance and popularity in the community.

To kick off its 36th season, Bluebarn is premiering *Dracula*, a one-man adaptation written by Jim Helsinger. Directed by Jill Anderson, who has worked on *Dracula* before, this version promises a fresh take on the classic tale, accompanied by special music that adds to the eerie atmosphere. The production fits perfectly into Halloween, offering audiences a thrilling and intimate theatrical experience.

*Dracula* will run at Bluebarn Theatre until October 27. For more information, visit bluebarn.org.
