Young Artists Challenge Perceptions of Drawing in New Exhibition at Ming Toy Gallery
October 22nd, 2024
Three young local artists, two still in college and one a recent graduate, share a common belief: drawing is an underrated art form. While many see it as simple or outdated, these artists view drawing as a powerful tool for exploring the complexities of the human experience.
Emma Geiger, a senior at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, along with Toni Parker and Ariel Carrillo, have teamed up for their first independent exhibition. The trio is using this opportunity to step outside the classroom and share their work with a broader audience. Ming Toy Gallery in Benson is hosting the show titled *Drawing The Interior*, which emphasizes drawing as a medium for introspection and self-expression.
Each artist brings a distinct perspective to the theme of interiors. Parker’s interdisciplinary work blends process-oriented art and reflective writing, exploring embodiment, life drawing, and Buddhist practice. Carrillo, a local illustrator, offers self-published comics that reflect on anxiety and the artist’s process. Geiger’s sculptures and drawings delve into self-exploration, using elements of physical interiors.
*Drawing The Interior* will be on display through Saturday, Oct. 26. More information is available at Ming Toy Gallery
