Nights at The Joslyn

November 7 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

AMERICAN ART REIMAGINED

Monthly Nights at The Joslyn are evenings for art immersion. Come out for gallery talks, live music, artmaking, special programs, and tasty food and drinks (for purchase).

This month we’re getting to know the American art collection, which has been reinstalled with an emphasis on the Great Plains to explore past and present artmaking in North America as a diverse and collective experience. Drop in for variety of activities offered throughout the evening, and don’t miss the featured Curator Conversation, 6-6:45 pm*, when members of our curatorial staff share stories and insights about the reinstallation of the American Art galleries.

*ASL interpretation provided for Curator Conversation

A look at the fun this month from 5–8 pm:

  • Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the evening. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
  • Curator Conversations, 6–6:45 pm; we’ll continue our Nights at The Joslyn conversation series with Annika K. Johnson, Stacy and Bruce Simon Curator of Native American Art and Ingrid Cho, Curatorial Assistant, Native American Art. They will share insights about the reinstallation in the American collection, a new interactive digital display that provides unprecedented access to the renowned Maximilian-Bodmer collection interpreted by Native American knowledge bearers, and the importance of the Museum’s Native American Art Advisory Committee’s ongoing guidance. Each month, Joslyn Art Museum curators, scholars, and community partners will have conversations about different areas of the collection—sharing new works and how the reinstallation unfolded in each part of the Museum’s collection.
  • Bluebird Cultural Initiative and its founder Steve Tamayo partners with the Museum on music and dance programs in the Fountain Court at 7pm.
  • Check out our two Art Cart stations in Joslyn Building galleries, with opportunities to talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers, touch hands-on materials, liven up your evening with some Gallery-Games-A-Go-Go, and take home an art prize!
  • Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching works in the American Art galleries—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
  • Take some time to learn with a new interactive digital display that provides unprecedented access to the renowned Maximilian-Bodmer collection interpreted by Native American knowledge bearers. Ongoing in the American Art galleries.
  • Visit Studio 1 for an art-making project that focuses on creating adornments and learning about how trade impacted what was made by Native makers. Developed and led by artists and makers at the Bluebird Cultural Initiative. All ages are welcome.
  • The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, stocked with an array of books and games.
  • Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale and The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, which is designed to be an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (please note that children must be accompanied by adults).

Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
