Omaha Symphonic Chorus Continues Holiday Tradition with New Leadership

December 6th, 2024

The Omaha Symphonic Chorus (OSC), founded in 1946 as the Apollo Club, has built a legacy of musical excellence over the decades. Now a non-profit organization, OSC showcases a diverse range of music, from classical masterpieces to global folk traditions, through three to five concerts each season. The member ensemble, selected annually by audition, adjusts its size to suit the unique needs of each performance.

This season, OSC continues its long-standing tradition of Christmas concerts at the cathedral, marking a new chapter under the leadership of its newly appointed artistic director and conductor, Marjorie Simons-Bester. Although this is Simons-Bester‘s first concert in the role, she is no stranger to the choir. The ensemble includes a mix of music educators, retired military personnel, and theater musicians, reflecting its diverse membership.

OSC’s Christmas concert is a highlight of the season, with performances typically held in the fall, winter, and spring, and the Christmas concert being the only one held twice. For many years, the cathedral has been the venue for this cherished holiday event. Simons-Bester has carefully curated this year’s program to offer something special for the community.

The Omaha Symphonic Chorus will present Christmas at the Cathedral this Friday and Sunday, with a recording of the performance to be aired by KVNO on Christmas Day from noon to 2 p.m.
