Omaha Symphony and St. Cecilia Cathedral Launch New Concert Series

September 10th, 2025

The Omaha Symphony has partnered with the St. Cecilia Cathedral Choir to launch a new concert series, bringing together orchestra, choir, and the cathedral’s majestic pipe organ for a unique musical experience.

The series opens Sept. 18 with Vivaldi’s Gloria, a performance that promises to transport listeners into the rich textures and emotion of Baroque music. Co-artistic directors Susanna Perry Gilmore, violin, and Marie Rubis Bauer, organ, say the idea for the collaboration began to take shape a few years ago, and they are thrilled to finally see it come alive on stage.

“The opening concert is a chance to present a rich and multifaceted Baroque program,” Gilmore said. “The cathedral setting is perfect for establishing the tone of the series.”

Bauer adds that the project offers a rare opportunity for listeners to feel immersed in the music. “This series has qualities that allow the audience to experience the music as though they were traveling through time,” she said, noting the intimacy created by different areas of the cathedral during performance.

The Vivaldi’s Gloria concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at St. Cecilia Cathedral. The series continues with A Festival of Christmas Brass on Dec. 18. More information is available at omahasymphony.org.

Co-artistic directors Gilmore and Bauer hope the series will become an annual event, giving audiences the chance to experience Baroque and seasonal repertoire in the extraordinary setting of St. Cecilia Cathedral.
