Conversation with NEA Jazz Master Terence Blanchard
The Event: A Conversation with Terence Blanchard: Scoring Malcolm X
Theme: Celebrating Malcolm X’s centennial, Andrea Joy Pearson will facilitate a powerful dialogue with Terence Blanchard, featuring Ananias “Markey” Montague, to explore Blanchard’s Malcolm X Jazz Suite and its impact on music and social justice.
Blanchard is widely celebrated as Spike Lee’s longtime collaborator (composing for films like Malcolm X, BlacKkKlansman, and Da 5 Bloods), a 6x Grammy® Award winner, and the first Black composer to have an opera performed at the Metropolitan Opera (Fire Shut Up in My Bones).
