A Timeless Omaha Community Playhouse Tradition.
November 26th, 2024
The Omaha Community Playhouse marks its 100th anniversary this year, a milestone celebrating its resilience, creativity, and enduring impact on the arts in the community. Over the past century, the Playhouse has become a cornerstone of Omaha’s cultural life, inspiring audiences and enriching the city with its performances.
The centennial festivities include a slate of productions that pay tribute to the Playhouse’s legacy, including the 49th annual staging of A Christmas Carol. The holiday classic, which has become a cherished Omaha tradition, is currently delighting audiences and will run through Dec. 22.
Baer Collins, who has been with the Playhouse for nearly 30 years, has been instrumental in shaping the enduring success of A Christmas Carol. Her deep knowledge of the production reflects decades of dedication to the Playhouse and its mission.
The Playhouse’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic tale was introduced in 1976 as a creative solution to financial struggles. The idea was to present a holiday production that could generate community support. The show was a resounding success and has remained a staple of Omaha’s holiday season since its debut performance.
