Bak Museum Learning Center Attracts Thousands

November 1st, 2024

Since opening 16 months ago, the Bak Museum: the Learning Center in Aksarben Village has welcomed nearly 11,000 visitors, a strong start for the Omaha-based museum dedicated to human rights and Holocaust education. The center’s exhibitions, which explore complex social themes, have quickly established it as a space for reflection and understanding.

According to Hilary Neiter-Darish, executive director of the Bak Museum, about half of the museum’s visitors are members of the general public, while the other half are students of all ages. This even split demonstrates the museum’s wide-ranging appeal across educational backgrounds and age groups.

To keep exhibits fresh and thought-provoking, the Bak Museum updates its displays every six months. Neiter-Darish recently traveled to Boston to meet with Mr. Bak in his studio, where they discussed plans for the next exhibit. The current exhibit, *After the Storm: Identity & Repair,* will run through Dec. 22. To enhance the exhibit experience, the museum hosts lectures led by University of Nebraska Omaha faculty, providing visitors with deeper insights into the topics explored.
