Beaufield Berry Film Debut: Misoprostol
July 10th, 2026
Misoprostol is a locally produced film that recently premiered at the Benson Theatre. Written, directed, and produced by Beaufield Berry, Misoprostol follows a woman’s decision about whether to undergo an at-home abortion using the medication misoprostol. This film is one looks into a person’s decision and how to navigate hard choice as an individual. Berry says, “I think that the word abortion and the discussion around abortion is just so charged… I want people to just see it for the experience that it is, removed from any sort of foundational idea around abortion that you’re coming in with.”
This film is one of Berry’s first, with her background and past experience being in both theatre and music video production. Berry speaks about the talented team behind the film, including actress Casey Jane and cinematographer Michael Hennings. “It was a very tight-knit crew. We shot the entire film in a day, which Michael called aggressive. And I said, ‘Well, have you met me,” says Berry.
Following its premiere at the Benson Theatre on June 28, Misoprostol has been submitted to multiple film festivals around the country. Some of the festivals include Sundance, Telluride, the Berlin Short Film Festival, and several others. By presenting a deeply human perspective on a sensitive topic, Berry sees this film as only the beginning of creating more locally produced films in Nebraska. Berry says, “There’s always an opportunity to go and make something. But the idea of making something here in our home, with our local talent and our local people and friends, means so much more to me. So, I want to bring more production to Omaha.”
Misoprostol will be touring various film festivals throughout the country. More information about the film can be found at Beaufield Berry on Instagram.
