Bemis Center Exhibit MOTHER TIME Examines Motherhood Through Photography
June 29th, 2026
A maternal photographic exhibition is currently open at the Bemis Center in downtown Omaha. MOTHER TIME, one of the Bemis Center’s current exhibitions, showcases a wide range of photographic works that examine the many stages of motherhood. Featuring photography by Rose Marie Cromwell and Rachel Cox, the exhibit presents the raw reality of what it truly looks like to be a mother.
Art Curator for the Bemis Center Rachel Adams says, “You sort of see these photographs of both artists with their daughters at times… with even things like nests and caves and areas that kind of shelter.”
MOTHER TIME explores motherhood through the lens of multiple generations, from daughter to mother to granddaughter. Cox and Cromwell’s work also complements each other, with the display blending multiple photographs from both artists to provide a broader, yet more nuanced, perspective on the experience of motherhood.
As a place for artists, created by artists, the Bemis Center provides a space for contemporary art to spark dialogue and inspire local artists and collaboration within the Omaha arts community.
“We always say it’s the presentation, creation and understanding of contemporary art,” Adams says. “There’s not a lot of places where artists can live and make work, where they can show their work and present it to the public, and where there can be educational dialogue around their work.”
The Bemis Center’s MOTHER TIME exhibition will be open to the public through September 13. More information can be found at bemiscenter.org.
