BFF Omaha Leads the Growth of Benson’s Creative District
January 21st, 2025
BFF Omaha, the nonprofit behind Benson’s thriving arts scene, achieved a significant milestone in 2023 when the neighborhood was officially designated a Creative District by the Nebraska Legislature. This recognition comes 11 years after BFF Omaha’s inception and highlights its pivotal role in shaping the region’s artistic and cultural landscape.
Annie Butler, Director of the Benson Creative District and a founding member of BFF Omaha, has been instrumental in driving this transformation. What began as a grassroots effort with monthly First Friday art walks has grown into a vibrant hub for the arts. “Our goal is to connect people—whether they’re artists or not—and foster relationships that strengthen our community,” Butler said.
Butler’s work extends beyond organizing events. She collaborates with high school students and supports initiatives like art clubs and creative lunches with professionals, aiming to inspire the next generation of artists. She also envisions spaces where those with creative passions, regardless of their professions, can continue to practice and enjoy their art forms.
