Opera Omaha Announces 2025-2026 Season

January 20th, 2025

Opera Omaha has unveiled its ambitious 2025-2026 season, featuring expanded programming, new venues, and internationally celebrated artists.

“We are thrilled to present a season that includes beloved classics, rarely performed works, and the continuation of the Family Opera Series,” said General Director Allison Swenson. “With more performances in more venues, this season offers something for everyone while continuing to inspire audiences and enhance Omaha’s vibrant cultural scene.”

The season opens in October with Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, a high-spirited tale of love, deception, and chaos. Directed by Stephen Lawless, the production stars Alexander Birch Elliott as Figaro and Daniela Mack in her Opera Omaha debut as Rosina.

In January, Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah explores the devastating effects of false accusations in a close-knit community. The production, directed by renowned soprano Patricia Racette, marks the launch of The Carlisle Floyd Foundation’s international centennial celebration.

March brings Handel’s Hercules, performed by The English Concert, the world’s leading Baroque orchestra, under the direction of Harry Bicket. This semi-staged performance is part of a limited U.S. tour.

In April, Opera Omaha and the Omaha Symphony team up for Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle, a psychological thriller that unravels dark secrets. The production features Ryan McKinney as Bluebeard, Michelle DeYoung as Judith, and projections by David Murakami.

The season concludes with UnShakeable, a poignant opera for all ages that follows two characters seeking to recover lost memories in a post-apocalyptic world.
