BlueBarn Theatre Explores Identity and Belonging in The Heart Sellers

February 6th, 2026

The Heart Sellers is the BlueBarn Theatre’s upcoming show, which is a story that presents the immigrant life in 1970s America. This production explores ideas of belonging, identity, and connection within American society. Director for The Heart Sellers, Wai Yim, says, “This is what many immigrants, not just Asian immigrants, have been through—have felt isolated… also the idea of what it is to be living in America?”

Yim has called Omaha home and has worked on multiple previous Blue Barn shows. This show is authentic, as the actresses onstage and the director behind the scenes both come from an Asian immigrant background. Yim speaks about their connection to the story and its importance to Omaha. Local actress Biannah Peji-Palm plays one of the two leads, Luna, in The Heart Sellers. Biannah says that this show has helped her embrace her Filipino accent through this show. Biannah states, “Like, my accent was just such a big part of my identity. And when I wasn’t cast because of my accent, it’s almost like, you know, people telling you you can’t be who you are… Doing a show like this and being able to just be yourself is really special.”

The Heart Sellers will be showing until March 1st. More information can be found at bluebarn.org.
