Cult Classic Musical Grease Hits The Playhouse Stage
September 16th, 2025
The Omaha Community Playhouse is shaking up the local theater scene with its lively new production of Grease. This cult-classic, 1950s-inspired musical takes audiences back to the golden era of rock and roll in a spirited coming-of-age story. Running from September 12 to October 12, the show is directed by VJ Orduña, who says:
“With the cast that we managed to put together… they are young, they are dynamic — many of them are first-time performers at the Playhouse.”
Leading the cast are Aron Murnane and Maya Bartee as the iconic duo, Danny and Sandy. They’re joined by a vibrant ensemble of supporting roles including Jan (Sophie Thomas), Frenchy (Miranda Gregory), and Doody (Karson Howard), among many others in the 20-plus-member cast, which as a whole brings energy, soul, and life into this golden era hit.
“It’s a little bit like being at a high school,” Orduña adds. “It’s been a real privilege and treat to work with them.”
Grease is also a tribute to the music of the 1950s, featuring familiar songs and bold performances that celebrate the era’s unique sound.
“It’s a celebration of the ’50s,” says Orduña. “Our design team and choreographer really leaned into the fantastic colors… it’s truly a grand celebration of what the idealized ’50s looked like.”
The Omaha Community Playhouse’s Grease runs through October 12. More information can be found at omahaplayhouse.com.
