Disco, Calamity and Comedy Takes the Omaha Community Playhouse’s Stage in Disaster

March 10th, 2026

The Omaha Community Playhouse presents a show about calamity as it opens its upcoming jukebox musical comedy, Disaster. From earthquakes to tidal waves to even grand infernos, Disaster lives up to its name by featuring nearly every natural disaster imaginable.

“It is a laugh riot,” says the director of Disaster, Vincent Orduña. “It is a satire of ’70s disaster movies. If you’ve ever been a fan of The Naked Gun movies or the movie Airplane!, imagine that with a disco score.”

Consisting of seventeen actors performing thirty-six roles, the show is fast-paced with its witty references and ’70s music. Scenes are reminiscent of old Saturday Night Live sketches, with the performance feeling like a satirical variety show. Orduña says, “What I like about a show like this is that it really doesn’t take itself seriously. And it gives the audience permission to just laugh, to enjoy fun music, to watch people be big and silly and ridiculous, and hopefully, for two hours, be able to step into a space of joy and zaniness.”

The music in the show is comprised of many popular hits from the 1970s. Songs such as “I Will Survive,” “Knock on Wood,” and “Hooked on a Feeling” are included, among many others performed throughout the show. Orduña adds, “The cast sings the stuff beautifully, and our band—they’re phenomenal.”

The Omaha Community Playhouse will present Disaster from March 13 through April 4. More information can be found at omahaplayhouse.com.
