First Friday Omaha Downtown Art Walk Fosters Local Art Community

Spearheaded by the Omaha Downtown Improvement District, the monthly First Friday Downtown Omaha Art Walk is a self-guided gallery tour across the downtown area, showcasing the works of local and regional artists from around the Omaha area. This month’s First Friday Downtown Omaha Art Walk features work from organizations such as Kaneko, Bemis, the Artists’ Cooperative, and many other organizations.
Holly Barrett, the executive director of the Omaha Downtown Improvement District, says, “Every gallery changes their exhibitions and does a really great job of, really drawing new people in every single month.”
The Omaha Downtown Improvement District is working in partnership to show the plethora of art and talent that we have in the Omaha area. From international pieces to local craftsmanship to even the grand public displays of art, the Omaha Downtown Improvement District is highlighting the vibrant culture that is the heartbeat of downtown Omaha.
Barrett says, “I would like people to take away not just the incredible diversity of art and culture that we have down in Old Market, but the whole big picture, the beauty of the architecture, the, lovely people that you’re meeting on the streets.”
The First Friday Downtown Omaha Art Walk will be happening on Friday, July 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. More information can be found at omahadowntown.org.
