From Musicals to Masterpieces: Omaha’s Top-Five Events This Spring
March 26th, 2025
Have you seen the geese flying with the moon on their wings? As spring arrives in Nebraska, it brings with it a season of renewal, music, theater and art. From classic musicals to dark comedies, Omaha’s cultural scene is in full bloom.
Daisy Hutzell-Rodman of Omaha Magazine and Content Studios Omaha shares five standout events happening in the metro area from March 26 onward, promising a mix of nostalgia, spectacle and thought-provoking performances.
A Timeless Story in Bellevue
There’s something about the arrival of spring that calls for The Sound of Music. The beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical follows Maria, a spirited young woman who becomes the governess of a large Austrian family while questioning her path in life. Featuring classic songs like “Do-Re-Mi” and “Edelweiss,” the show captures the resilience of love and music in the face of uncertainty. The Sound of Music will be performed at Bellevue Little Theatre on weekends from March 28 through April 13.
Bob Dylan Returns to Omaha
Whether you revere him as a musical genius or struggle with his distinctive voice, there’s no denying Bob Dylan’s influence. The legendary songwriter behind Like a Rolling Stone and Mr. Tambourine Man will bring his raw, poetic sound to the Orpheum Theater on April 1. Fans can expect a setlist filled with classics, deep cuts and perhaps a few surprises.
Chekhov, Reinvented
Anton Chekhov’s plays are known for their intricate character studies, and The Seagull is no exception. But what happens when a single actor takes on the challenge of portraying multiple characters in one of Chekhov’s most complex works? The Gull, a one-person adaptation of The Seagull, transforms a decaying country estate into a stage for shifting identities and emotions. This bold interpretation will be performed at Benson Theatre on April 12.
A Ballet Wonderland
From the halls of literary history to the ballet stage, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland finds new life in an American Midwest Ballet production that promises dazzling visuals and whimsical storytelling. Audiences can follow Alice down the rabbit hole at the Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center on April 12 and 13, or catch additional performances at the Orpheum Theater on April 26 and 27.
An African Tapestry in Omaha
For those who dream of traveling without leaving the city, Fabrics of Africa: Weaving Culture and Community offers an immersive journey through textile artistry. Curated by Suzanne Gunn, who spent her early years in Kenyan villages, the exhibit at KANEKO showcases vibrant fabrics that tell the stories of African heritage and craftsmanship. Fabrics of Africa is open now through April 27.
Beyond these five highlights, Omaha’s cultural calendar is brimming with excitement. While tickets to Jack White at Steelhouse and The Faint at The Waiting Room are already spoken for, those lucky enough to attend can expect unforgettable performances.
With spring’s arrival, the city is alive with music, theater and art. Where will your next adventure take you?
