Gallery 1516 brings Sunday music and art sales this fall

Gallery 1516 is preparing for a busy fall season, with free Sunday morning concerts, an annual art auction and exhibition, and a regional photography biennial on the calendar.

The season begins with the return of Bagels and Sometimes Bach, the gallery’s Sunday morning music series. The tradition, which began in 2018 with a break during the COVID pandemic, features free performances by Nebraska musicians, along with complimentary bagels and coffee.

This year’s series opens Sunday, Sept. 13, with guitarist Ron Cooley and trumpeter Daryl White.

The lineup continues throughout the fall with performances featuring Opera Omaha, the Omaha Conservatory of Music, the Omaha Chamber Music Society, classical guitarist Daniel Martinez, flutist Christine Beard and other Nebraska musicians.

All performances are free and open to the public.

Gallery 1516 is also preparing for its annual Downsizing art auction and exhibition, opening Aug. 28.

The monthlong exhibition features artwork from private collectors who are downsizing their collections. The show includes a wide range of work, from sculpture and ceramics to paintings, prints and photography.

This year’s exhibition includes work by Nebraska artists Steve Joy and Bill Hoover, along with bronze sculptures by Frederick Remington and artwork by artists from outside the region.

Because the artwork comes from private collectors rather than directly from artists, Gallery 1516 takes a 20% commission on sales. Proceeds support the nonprofit gallery’s mission to support Nebraska and regional artists, musicians and other creatives.

Looking ahead, Gallery 1516 will host its 2026 Regional Photography Biennial in October. The juried exhibition will feature approximately 100 photographers from Nebraska and the six states that border it.

With music, visual art and opportunities to collect original work, Gallery 1516 has plenty happening this fall.
