Good Vibrations Instrument Drive Hits a High Note for Local Students

August 5th, 2025

The annual Good Vibrations Used Instrument Drive, a collaborative effort between the Omaha Chamber Music Society and KVNO, continues to strike a chord in the community.

The drive, which collects gently used musical instruments, ensures they are refurbished through the Omaha Chamber Music Society’s Good Vibrations program before being placed in the hands of students in need across the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area.

Judy Divis, president of the Omaha Chamber Music Society, said the initiative has been making music education more accessible for several years.

The idea for the used instrument drive emerged during a visit to the KVNO studios, where Divis was inspired to expand the program’s reach. The inaugural KVNO Good Vibrations Used Instrument Drive collected 80 instruments and received enthusiastic support from local businesses for the repair and restoration process.

This year, the effort has exceeded expectations, with more than 500 instruments donated so far.

“At the heart of this program, it’s all about the students,” Divis said. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donates and supports this mission.”

The 2025 Good Vibrations Used Instrument Drive will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon at the UNO Clocktower. For more information, visit kvno.org.
