Kaneko Celebrates Creativity and Connection with Valentine’s Event

February 11th, 2026

Kaneko has long been a creative landmark in Omaha’s Old Market, welcoming thousands of visitors over the years, from longtime supporters to first time guests discovering the space for the first time. Founded by artist Jun Kaneko and his wife Ree, the center was created as a place where people can experience, explore, and celebrate creativity in all its formsres.

Today, Kaneko continues that mission by offering a wide range of programming, including exhibitions, concerts, performances, lectures, and workshops. The space encourages visitors to think differently, engage with art, and connect with ideas in meaningful ways.

Currently, Kaneko is featuring two very different exhibitions. One is Under the Skin, a collection of more than seventy works that includes photography, sculpture, painting, and video installations. The exhibition explores what it means to be human, presenting deeply personal stories and perspectives from many walks of life. Some of the works include partial or full nudity, so parental discretion is advised.

The second exhibition highlights colorful paintings and prints by Jun Kaneko, created in partnership with the University of Nebraska at Omaha Print Shop Department. Together, these shows reflect both contemporary themes and the legacy of one of Omaha’s most influential artists.

In addition to the exhibitions, Kaneko remains active with community partnerships. Recent and upcoming programs include collaborations with the Nebraska Writers Collective and an event with UNMC’s Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery later in February. These partnerships show how art can connect with education, health, and storytelling.

This Valentine’s Day, Kaneko is offering something new with a special evening called The Art of Love, Creative Pairings at Kaneko. The event brings together visual art, live music, wine, and chocolate for a multi sensory experience designed to celebrate creativity and connection.

During the event, visitors can explore eleven tasting stations featuring local chocolatiers and wineries, spread throughout the building. Live music will add to the atmosphere, creating a relaxed and inviting setting for couples, friends, and anyone looking for a unique way to celebrate.

The Art of Love takes place from 6:30 to 9:30 in the evening, and guests are welcome to arrive at any time during those hours. Whether visitors come early, stop by after dinner, or arrive later for dessert, the event is designed to fit different schedules and preferences.

Tickets are required, and more information is available on Kaneko’s website. For both returning visitors and newcomers, the Valentine’s event offers a chance to experience the center’s mission in a new way, blending art, flavor, music, and community into one memorable evening
