Meghann Henry on the Power of the Arts

February 2nd, 2026

O-C-M Executive Director Meghann Henry has spent the past twenty five years helping people of all ages understand the power of the arts. Her work is rooted in a deep belief that music education is about much more than learning how to play an instrument or sing a song.

For Meghann the arts are a way to build skills that last a lifetime. Music education teaches attention to detail. It strengthens relationships. It creates opportunities for mentorship. And it helps students become confident thinkers and creative problem solvers.

She has seen those transformations happen again and again. Through arts education Meghann has watched people discover abilities they did not know they had. The process can be life changing especially for young students who begin to see themselves differently through music.

After earning her undergraduate degree Meghann briefly worked outside the arts. It did not take long for her to realize something was missing. She wanted work that felt meaningful and connected to her values. That realization led her back to school and toward a graduate degree in the arts where she could focus on making a lasting impact.

Meghann has now been in Omaha for about two and a half years leading the Conservatory of Music. She describes its mission in simple terms. The goal is to grow musicians through excellence creativity and mentorship. It is a philosophy that reflects her own journey and her belief in what the arts can offer individuals and communities alike.
