‘OCMS’ Heritage Series Continues with a Night of Schubert’s Chamber Masterpieces
March 17th, 2025
The Omaha Chamber Music Society continues its 2025 Heritage Series with a concert celebrating the enduring genius of Franz Schubert. The performance, set for March 25 at the Omaha Conservatory of Music, will showcase two of the composer’s chamber music masterpieces.
Schubert, known for his prolific output in his short career, composed an extensive collection of chamber works that remain central to the classical repertoire. (“Franz Schubert wrote a lot of music in his very short career and a lot of chamber music,” OCMS Artistic Director Thomas Kluge said.)
Directed by Kluge, who also serves as principal violist of the Omaha Symphony, and featuring cellist Gregory Clinton, the concert will highlight Schubert’s Grand Sonata in B-flat Major for Piano Four Hands and Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat Major. These pieces exemplify the composer’s lyrical brilliance and his ability to push the boundaries of piano writing.
Schubert composed during the rapid evolution of the fortepiano, which underwent technological advancements that expanded its expressive and dynamic range. These developments allowed composers to explore new possibilities in piano music, influencing how chamber works were written and performed.
Jay Wise, General Manager of the Omaha Chamber Music Society, credits these transformations for shaping how modern audiences experience Schubert’s music.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. More information is available at omahachambermusic.org.
