Omaha Broadway Bar Brings New Musical Theater Experience to Local Scene

In just a few short months, Omaha Broadway Bar has taken center stage in the city’s nightlife. Launched in September 2024 by Curtis Reynolds, an assistant professor of musical theatre at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the event has quickly become a crowd favorite. Reynolds says that creation goes back to his past, stating, “I actually used to do piano bar work for cruise ships and on the east coast for private parties.” Reynolds moved to Omaha a few years back and he’s always felt like something was missing in the city. Reynolds says, “I started also just because I didn’t see that style of entertainment in Omaha. There’s a lot of great theatre here, there’s a lot of live music, but this seemed like almost a missing element.”
Launched in September 2024, the Omaha Broadway seemed to strike the correct chord with people in the Omaha community, as it has seen rapid growth within its lifespan. Reynolds says, “We just outgrew the room at Mr. Toads…and had our first inaugural debut at The Tavern in downtown Omaha.” Starting from one show per month, the Omaha Broadway Bar has expanded its events to sometimes one every week.
The Omaha Broadway Bar aims to create an intimate, cabaret-style setting with even of their featuring different local guest singers in the Omaha area. Reynolds comments, “I really didn’t think the guest artist thing would take off… [but] it’s even gotten to the point where people from Lincoln have sent me videos to audition…” It is the Omaha Broadway Bar’s charm of blending high-energy performances with a love for Broadway classics that keeps audiences coming back for more.
Reynolds finishes by stating, “It has been such a positive thing in my life and it ahs been so rewarding to see it be a very positive thing for other people.” The Omaha Broadway Bar host many events around town from the Max, to the Tavern, and even the Joslyn Art Museum.
