Omaha Conservatory of Music Hosts Second Final Fridays Concert
March 28th, 2025
Whether it’s a love for music, a wish for a quick bite, or a chance to just get out of the house for a little while, Omaha Conservatory of Music’s Final Friday lunchtime concerts are open to the public each month. Gretchen Crane, Community and Donor Engagement Manager at the Conservatory sought to use that time for a potential event.
A recent venture, the idea for an afternoon event during the conservatories’ quieter hours was first brought up late last year. The conservatories’ busiest hours are between 3 and 9 pm, when students arrive for their music lessons. The morning, however, typically has much less people in the building making for prime time to host a short performance.
Crane originally pitched the idea of a short concert to several faculty artists. Met with approval, she began work on organizing the new event. After a few months of organization, the first Final Friday concert debuted this February. Scheduled for the final Friday of each month, each concert will be free to attend.
The experience lasts about an hour, beginning at noon. Guests can enjoy complimentary coffee provided by Myrtle & Cypress, a sponsor of the concert series. Myrtle & Cypress also offer food for sale, such as lunches or charcuterie boards.
The performances are performed by faculty members for now, with plans for merit scholar performances come summertime. Each performance lasts about 30 minutes. As the performers switch out each month, guests can expect a unique experience at each concert. After the performance, guests can stick around and continue chatting until 1 pm.
The Final Friday’s concerts are held in the Smith Recital Hall located in the Conservatory at 7023 Cass Street. The second concert will be held March 28 (today?) at noon. Faculty artists Melissa Tatreau-Holtmeier, violinist, and Andrew Bukowinski, cellist, will be performing eight violin and cello duets composed by Reinhold Glière.
Guests can simply arrive to each concert or RVSP ahead of time through the Conservatories’ website at www.omahacm.org.
