‘Plants That Make Me Happy’ by Megan Sanders

June 28th, 2024

For Megan Sanders, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, the healing journey is deeply intertwined with the soothing power of nature. She believes that paintings of plants and landscapes bring a calming peace to patients in recovery. Sanders’ own love for painting began in childhood after taking an art class, sparking a lifelong passion for creating peaceful landscapes and plants.

While dedicating herself to her nursing career, Sanders painted whenever she found a moment, often drawing inspiration from the vibrant patterns and colors of the plants in her home. A few years ago, she was encouraged to enter the image contest for the renowned Omaha Summer Arts Festival and was amazed when her work was selected. That year, her painting was prominently featured, capturing public attention and renewing her passion for painting.

Recently, another call for local artists piqued Sanders’ interest, this time from the Lauritzen Botanical Garden. Her collection of plant and landscape paintings is currently showcased in one of two exhibits at the Lauritzen Gardens Gallery. Running until July 9, this exhibition offers all paintings for sale, with 100% of the profits going directly to the artists. For more information, visit lauritzengardens.org.
