The Omaha Community Playhouse’s 50th Annual Production of A Christmas Carol
December 9th, 2025
As the holiday season comes around the corner, the Omaha Community Playhouse celebrates by taking to the stage with its 50th annual production of A Christmas Carol. The classic tale follows Ebenezer Scrooge and his encounters with the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. This production remains one of the Omaha Community Playhouse’s largest. Susie Baer Collins, the director of A Christmas Carol, says, “And as the curtain comes up, snow is sprinkling down on these people, and we’re hearing the overture, and toward the end of the overture… they come to life and begin to interact with each other inside the words of this song. And it always takes my breath away.”
This show has a long history with the Omaha Community Playhouse. The version performed on stage today was adapted in the 1970s by the playhouse’s former executive artistic director, Charles Jones. The history of this production is reflected not only in its script but also in its cast, with many returning performers joining the ensemble, such as Cork Ramer and Julie Huff. “We have people in our show who would have been children in the ensemble that are now adults and have come back to play roles in the show,” Collins says. “It becomes a family—our Christmas Carol family.”
Being a festive production, this show embraces the idea of hope and the belief that even the prickliest people in the world can change. Collins concludes, “And I don’t think you can come to this show and not have a little spark start to emanate from inside your chest.”
A Christmas Carol will be showing at the Omaha Community Playhouse until December 21. More information can be found at omahaplayhouse.com.
